Noonmark Three-Cross Pedigree
NOONMARK Pedigree Analysis - by Alan Porter
OCTOBER 15, 2012
A brilliantly speedy, graded stakes winning sprinter, Noonmark defeated many of the fastest horses of his time. An exceptionally attractive son of outstanding sire, Unbridled's Song, he is out of Storm Cat mare from a top-class family.
Out of a Northern Dancer line mare - via Storm Bird and Storm Cat - Noonmark should cross well back over Northern Dancer line mares. Among the Northern Dancer line that have produced stakes winners for Unbridled's Song and his sons include Deputy Minister, Danzig (with Chief's Crown, Polish Numbers and Belong to Me, appearing good sources), Dixieland Band (sire of Dixie Union, Dixie Brass and Hook and Ladder), Sadler's Wells (sire of El Prado, and grandsire of Medaglia d'Oro and Kitten's Joy), Nijinsky II and Lyphard. The Deputy Minister branch of Northern Dancer can be brought in through Dehere and Silver Deputy (who both look particularly good), Salt Lake, Touch Gold (sire of a graded stakes winner from Noonmark's family), Awesome Again, Deputy Commander, Forest Camp, and Service Strip and French Deputy (both broodmare sires of Unbridled's Song line stakes winners). The strain of Nijinsky II, a genetic relative to Storm Bird, the sire of Storm Cat, should be very good here and can be brought in through Royal Academy and his brother Encino, Shadeed (sire of Alydeed), Baldski, Caerleon (broodmare sire of an Unbridled's Song line stakes winner), Ferdinand, Fred Astaire (broodmare sire of a grade one winner by a son of Unbridled's Song), Green Dancer, Seattle Dancer, Sky Classic and Strawberry Road (broodmare sire of an Unbridled's Song stakes winner). The Minstrel, a three-parts-brother to Nijinsky II, should also be good here, and can be found through daughters of L'Emigrant, Opening Verse and Palace Music. We can also note that the very successful young sire Speightstown, like Noonmark, from the Mr. Prospector line out of a Storm Cat mare, has a graded stakes winner out of a mare by a son of Storm Cat, and it could be worth testing Noonmark with mares by such Storm Cat sons as Forestry, Tale of the Cat, Forest Wildcat, Hennessy, Tactical Cat, and Tabasco Cat (broodmare sire of a stakes winner by a son of Unbridled's Song). It would also be worth considering mares carrying Storm Cat's three-quarters relative, Summer Squall (broodmare sire of a graded stakes winner by a son of Unbridled's Song), while his 2012 grade one winner Emcee is out of a mare by Storm Bird son, Ocean Crest.
From the Icecapade branch of the Nearctic (sire of Northern Dancer) line, Unbridled's Song is sire of the brilliant Zensational out of a mare by Phone Trick (by Clever Trick), a horse who is also broodmare sire of a grade one winner by Unbridled. There is also a stakes winner by Wild Again (son of Icecapade) from Noonmark's family.
As a grandson of Fappiano, the success of Unbridled's Song and his sons with mares descending from carrying In Reality (giving a double of the influential sire, Rough' n Tumble) was not hard to predict. Unbridled's Song has grade one winners out of mares by Valid Appeal and Taylor's Falls, a graded stakes winner out of a mare by In Reality, a graded stakes winner out a mare by Know Fact, and two stakes winner out of mares descending from In Reality through Relaunch (who would be good here through Tiznow and Officer). Unbridled's Song's grade one winner, Political Force is out of a mare, by Glitterman, and is inbred to In Reality, once through a sister to Relaunch.
Unbridled enjoyed a strong affinity with mares by Caro, Unbridled's Song being an example. In turn, Unbridled's Song has a grade one winner by Dr. Carter (a son of Caro) and a 2012 graded stakes winner out of a mare by Siberian Express (by a son of Caro), and his son, Songandaprayer, sired graded stakes winner He's Got Grit out of a mare by Caro son With Approval. Other good sources of Caro would be Cozzene and his son Alphabet Soup, In Excess and his son Indian Charlie (giving a particularly intriguing pedigree pattern), and Tejano (broodmare sire of a stakes winner by a son of Unbridled's Song). Caro is a Nasrullah line stallion, and from the Naskra branch of that line, Unbridled's Song has an excellent strike rate with mares by Olympio.
The cross of Unbridled's Song with mares descending from Blushing Groom, has produced stakes winners out of mares by Mt. Livermore and his son, Housebuster (suggesting trying mares by Orientate, broodmare sire of a 2011 two-year-old stakes winner by a son of Unbridled), Rahy (sire of a stakes winner from Noonmark's family, and broodmare sire of a graded stakes winner by Unbridled) and Runaway Groom (sire of Cherokee Run).
A great-grandson of Mr. Prospector (by Raise a Native), Unbridled's Song has enjoyed success when bred back over mares from a wide variety of branches of the Raise a Native line. These include grade one winners Songandaprayer (out of a mare by Premiership, a son of Exclusive Native, and a stakes winner out of a mare by another son of that horse, Affirmed), Marylebone (out of a mare by Wavering Monarch, from the Majestic Prince line), and a stakes winner out of a mare by Alydar.
Unbridled's Song and his sons have also begun to find success when bred back over mares from their own Mr. Prospector sire line, with successful branches including Gone West (whose son West By West is broodmare sire of a stakes winner by a son of Unbridled's Song), Forty Niner (through Distorted Humor and Tactical Advantage),Norquestor (by Conquistador Cielo), Smart Strike (broodmare sire of a 2012 grade one winner by a son of Unbridled's Song), Machiavellian (sire of Street Cry) and Miswaki (whose son, Black Tie Affair, sired brilliant grade one winner Formal Gold out of the granddam of Noonmark). Generally speaking, mares bred on the Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross, or by stallions bred on that cross should do well.
Unbridled's Song has shown a strong affinity for mares from the Prince John line, particularly through Hold Your Peace/Meadowlake. There are also Unbridled's Song line stakes winners out of mares from the Turn-to line descending from Bates Motel, Lord Avie, Drone and Proud Birdie, and from the Hail to Reason branch, Halo and who has already appeared via his son Devil's Bag (brother to Saint Ballado), and Roberto (who has worked under Unbridled and Unbridled's Song via Red Ransom, Dynaformer, and You and I). We can also note that Unbridled's Song has two stakes winners, including Rockport Harbor out of mares by Copelan, and that he has sired a graded stakes winner and a classic performer out of mares by A.P. Indy, and there are two stakes winners by his sons out mares by A.P. Indy son Pulpit (which suggests that Mineshaft, Malibu Moon, Congrats and Flatter - all bred on the same cross as Pulpit, or Sky Mesa, a son of Pulpit, could also be considered).
