Runners from the first two crops of MISSION IMPAZIBLE – bred in three different states – broke their maidens by open margins on dirt and turf at Oaklawn Park, Gulfstream Park, and Aqueduct during an eight-day span in late March, scoring decisively at three different distances. Mission Impazible continues to lead New York-based third-crop sires in 2018 after having ranked as the Empire State’s leading first-crop sire of 2016 and leading second-crop sire of 2017 – both by wide margins – as well as New York’s leading juvenile sire of 2017.
Beating eight rivals at six furlongs on dirt at Oaklawn Park on March 18 was CUMBER, Clark O. Brewster’s 3-year-old Oklahoma homebred son of Mission Impazible. Five days later, on March 23, another 3-year-old colt from Mission Impazible’s second crop, Kentucky-bred BIG POSSIBLE, scored by 2¼ lengths over the runner-up favorite at Gulfstream Park, clocking 56.48 for five furlongs on turf for JCA Racing Stable LLC. Two days later, on Sunday, March 25, Mission Impazible filly IMPAZIBLE CREEK romped by 9½ lengths at odds-on among seven going 6½ furlongs on Aqueduct dirt for Whisper Hill Farm LLC – despite being bumped at the start by an eventually unplaced longshot.
Mission Impazible’s February dirt winners included 3-year-old Kentucky-bred filly NUCLEAR POWER, who won first-out against seven rivals, 3-year-olds and up and most of them males, by a daylight margin while racing 1,750 meters (about midway between 1 1/16 and 1 1/8 miles) at Santa Rosa in Trinidad on February 8. Owned by Shivam Maharaj, Nuclear Power had been purchased at auction as a weanling, yearling, and 2-year-old in training for increasingly higher prices at Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton Kentucky, and Ocala Breeders’ Sales. Another 3-year-old Mission Impazible filly, DREAMS ARE PAZIBLE, won by 2½ lengths as the odds-on topweight going 6½ furlongs on Aqueduct mud on February 23 and has scored at three different distances for owner-breeder Twin Creeks Racing Stables, LLC, of which Steve Davidson is the primary owner.
